Obituary of Burtis Leon Cartwright Sr.

Mr. Burtis Leon Cartwright Sr., age 76, of Sour Lake, Texas, passed away Monday, July 22, 2019, at Village Creek Rehab and Nursing Center in Lumberton, Texas.

Born Febraruy 12, 1943, in Rosevine, Texas, to parents Jessie Cartwright and Verlean Morris Cartwright, he had been a longtime resident of the Grayburg/Sour Lake area. Mr. Cartwright retired as a heavy equipment operator in pipeline construction with Local #450. He was of the Baptist faith and had attended Grayburg Baptist Church as well as First Baptist Church of Bronson, Texas.

His survivors include three sons, Burtis Cartwright Jr. and wife Melissa, Jessie "Rabbit" Cartwright, and Ronnie Cartwright, all of Sour Lake, Texas; his mother, Verlean Cartwright of Rosevine, Texas; two sisters, Brenda Longnion and Phylis Williams, both of Rosevine, Texas; six grandchildren, Brianna Cartwright, Josey Hebert, Jess Hebert, Katy Cartwright, Jesse Cartwright, and Erik Erickson; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lea Ann Cartwright Hebert; and his father, Jessie Cartwright.

Funeral services are set for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Wyman Roberts Memorial Chapel, located at 316 W. Columbia Street in San Augustine, Texas, with interment to follow at Rosevine Cemetery, located on FM 1 in the Rosevine Community of Sabine County, Texas. Officiating will be Bro. Cliff Durham, pastor of Rosevine Baptist Church, and Bro. C.W. Lawrence, pastor of Wiley Mae Community Baptist Church.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Burtis Cartwright Jr., Jessie "Rabbit" Cartwright, Jesse Cartwright, Charlie Comeaux, Ronnie Cartwright, and Sterling Booker Jr.
